By Nazifa Chowdhury Our very own 11th grade class was treated with a trip to Midtown Mosque Food Pantry! Brother Malik Shaw, Ms. Shampa, and Ms. Kaouther were kind enough to chaperone. Midtown mosque is located at 1288 Jackson Ave. and it is the only mosque that is located a few minutes from Downtown Memphis. The mosque has many community events, which include the food pantry. In fact, this food pantry was found by previous PVS students. Sabriyya shaw and her classmate were courageous enough to open it. Brother Malik Shaw, the co-founder of the mosque, gave the students a tour of the mosque and educated them with the history of the makings of it. The students visited the garden and saw the plants that were hand-grown. This garden is Midtown mosque's very own garden with a plethora of plants. The students can be seen listening to Brother Shaw while he tells them the history of the garden. Our juniors then went to Tom Lee park for lunch! They enjoyed the breeze while eating pizza and taking strolls. “This must be one of the best trips I’ve ever gone to,” says a student.” On their way back, they went to Sugar Ghost to get ice cream and boba! Students bustled through the doors of Sugar Ghost. “My favorite boba is mango fruit tea with lychee jelly,” says a student. They then headed back to school with a newfound knowledge of the hardships people face with not being able to access foods. Comments are closed.
