MIST Interest Meeting

2/2/2026

By Innas Alhazaz
On Feb, 10, 901 Ummah held a MIST meeting at PVS at 2:36PM to introduce the high school students to MIST. Ms. Amal and Fayad came over to PVS to represent 901 Ummah. They introduced us to MIST and what MIST is.They explained to the students what the theme is and what some of the competitions are. MIST is an annual trip to Nashville. MIST Nashville stands for the Muslim Interscholastic Tournament in Nashville. It’s open to all high school students. It’s a multi day competition for high school students. Some of the competitions are sports, Essays, Poems, Quran, 2d and 3d art, fashion design, and ect. Each year there is an Islamic theme that needs to connect to each competition except sports and the Quran. For example, if someone chooses to compete in fashion design they will need to draw six models of three women and three men dressed in an Islamic cloth and they should explain how that connects back to the theme of the year. All teams from four states meet at Nashville so they can compete with each other. The competitions are held at Vanderbilt University. It happens over a weekend from Friday until Sunday. The first day students get ready for practices and maybe some competitions will be done. The second day is the official day for competitions and the third day is the day of awards. There is a dress code each day. And the best state that has the most unique outfit wins as the best team overall. The students who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd get awarded and the students who play on a sports team and place each one of them get an award.
