By Hafsa Khan As January continues, many are reminded once again of one of the most historical figures in history, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Martin Luther King was one of the leading figures in the fight for civil rights and equality in the United States that continues today. Born on January 15, 1929, Martin was a civil rights activist, leader, political philosopher, and Nobel Peace Prize holder, who believed in equality for everyone. He led many massive protests such as the March on Washington (1963), the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and the Birmingham Campaign.
When asked about the many events and activities being held to honor Martin Luther King, Eiman Siddiqui, a prominent student at PVS stated, “In my English class, our teacher had us analyze one of his most notable speeches, the “I Have A Dream” speech. I’d heard of the speech before, but after reading it, I truly realized how great of a leader he was. As an aspiring writer, I greatly appreciated him because of this beautifully written speech.” It is important to honor and learn about the many contributions historical figures have made to make sure everyone has a place in society.
