This week, the newly formed PVS Amnesty Club held its very first event and it was a huge success! Amnesty International is a global nonprofit that works on putting an end to human rights abuse. It was founded in 1961 and is empowering over 10 million people around the world to make a change. Issues they focus on include armed conflicts, child rights, climate change, corporate accountability, gun violence, and other issues related to violations of the universal declaration of human rights. The club strives to educate others and raise awareness about struggles faced that aren't talked about enough. In addition, they are raising funds for human rights and those in need.
The PVS Amnesty’s first event was an impressive cafe that they set up. They raised money for Gaza and the Uyghur's. It turned out to be a great hit amongst the school! “It’s great that the students are working for the noble cause of freeing people and I’m glad to see the student body is becoming more aware of some of the Muslims that are imprisoned around the world for unjust reasons” says our beloved principal Dr. Malley. “Best matcha I’ve had in a while” says another teacher. PVS Amnesty’s raised $1013 to donate.
I think we can all agree Amnesty has been a great addition to the school's clubs. To help Amnesty continue what they do we can sign pistons they send us, help in raising money, and participate in global campaigns. Everyone deserves the right to feel safe. They look forward to accomplishing their goals with the PVS community.
