By Hafsa Khan The Muslimah Initiative is a club in Pleasant View School exclusively for young girls meant to empower them in various ways. It was founded by the girls of the class of 2025 when they were in 9th grade. At the time, there were no female-only clubs made for the sole purpose of empowering women.
The Class of 2025 felt they needed more representation as Muslim sisters to combat the stigma revolving around women’s issues. They saw how fellow Muslim sisters in Pleasant View School were eager to combat women’s struggles through an Islamic approach. The Muslimah Initiative saw that as a chance to become the big sister that some may have never had. The Muslimah Initiative has hosted workshops and fundraisers to empower young Muslim women. For example, they have hosted a fundraiser to aid women in war-torn countries in getting the feminine hygiene they needed. They have also hosted a workshop for sixth graders on how to productively use social media and avoid the dangers of social media. Last but not least, the Muslimah Initiative has worked to instill confidence in fellow Muslims for the hijab by starting the World Hijab Day tradition at the beginning of 2022. Comments are closed.
